BPDU filter blocks Bridge Protocol Data Units from transmitted out of a port. Similar to Portfast and BPDU Guard it can be enabled globally or on a per interface level.
To enable BPDU Filter globally across all interfaces on a switch that have Portfast enabled:
spanning-tree portfast bpdufilter default
To enable BPDU filter on an interface regardless if port fast is enabled or not
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
If the global BPDU Filter command is used, the switch will not process any BPDUs that are received but it will forward them on to downstream switches but not upstream swtiches.
